Febuary 1st is the Chinese New Year. Every year the Chinese community in Washington D.C. celebrates the New Year with a small parade with local dignateries, traditional dancing, music, and demonstrations of their heritage. Firecrackers are traditionally ignited during the ceromony, but this year the firecracker that was hoisted up 4 stories high was never ignited because there was a gas leak reported in the area. The dissapointed crowd regardless enjoyed themselves with displays of lyon dances and drumming. |
